Farewell civil liberties.

Oh well. According to the English online issue of Financial Times, a study in Great Britain came to a conclusion that citizens are less and less aware and/or interested in protecting civil rights and liberties in order to “feel secure” in a post-9/11 world. So, apparently, terrorists trying to destroy our world and social order have finally won, along with political hardliners proclaiming that the only way to protect our civil rights and liberties is to sacrifice them piece by piece. Read the full text; indeed probably most irritating is:


Only a tiny majority now believes it is worse to convict an innocent person than to let a guilty one go free, and the public is less supportive of the right of extremists to hold public meetings or publish books.

If doing a study like this in Germany, I doubt that results would differ that much…
