desk log, week 14
Moving into April, short notes on a long week. Unsorted ramblings, odds and ends, as always:
- Still then and now running into conflicts of personal and professional mindset. Artificial intelligence, generative art and all that cause disruptions at a high price. Adam has written a good piece on that which I fully agree with, both in his assumptions and conclusions that are reasonable yet also more considering than just plain tool bashing. Courtney has written on that topic too. It's difficult.
- Priorities matter. Organizations do have their own speed, and sometimes even small, fast structures are about to get into their own way trying to adapt to changes that are more profound. And maybe, too, while trying to adapt to changes that require experience outside ones own history and comfort zone.
- Been playing with themes and setups on this particular blog. Currently at a stage of being modestly annoyed with it again. Wondered about merging all these into one - or just going with it and ignoring things. Purged a bunch of older articles in here, still amazed to see this blog dates back two decades now. And amazed to see what kept us busy and angry back then. Considered wiping this blog completely once again, or at least cutting its long tail. Topics changedd. Moods changed. Relevances shifted. I'm not in there anymore.
- Re-installed my office laptop to finally enable disk encryption. Effectively spent way too much time on that, despite all preparations, because of side-effects I didn't have on my list - such as a VPN certificate that expired in between without me noticing. Wrestled devices way too long to track down what in the end was broken behaviour caused by an unrelated problem. Well you never know.
- Dug through my collection of books by William Gibson, looking for a particular quote I had in mind all the time but still failed to find. An odd feeling especially if you like literally see the page where it used to be written before your inner eye. Yet, decided to re-read a bunch of his short stories to compare them against todays reality. Not sure which outcome this will produce.
- Upcoming for Friday, still: Night Of The Libraries. Some places to see, some events to attend. On closer look it's inspiring to notice how many smaller and bigger libraries a city like this uses to offer. Even though time to be spent on reading books is ever-limited, let alone socializing about reading and books.
- Longer days again, more sun, but still wintry cold in the mornings. At the change of seasons, one's continuously torn between weathers and finding the right clothes. One or two days of rain. More blossoms with every week, or even day, to pass. Familiar regulars on the outdoor camera: Marten, fox, raccoon. Great to be a tolerated part of this community then and now, and happy to see some of the age-old trees still springing new life here and there.
Unsure where time went, again. Have a peaceful and inspiring weekend wherever you are.
