Apprentice Days Online: 1998 - 2000

Moving on browsing through my online history. At some point, my days started filling up with learning new things, and boy were there plenty of new things to deal with. Building network environments on top of Linux and BNC wiring. Running most of the relevant Linux services locally, including shared internet access for, by now, three or four desktop PCs in the whole house. Early Days Online: 1996 - 1998

My history on the internet and the World Wide Web starts in late 1996 when enlisting for the winter courses at the Chemnitz Institute of Technology. Had some years of “computing history” involving C-64 BASIC, MS-DOS and early variants of MS Windows. Lot of learning ahead: Started using Solaris on Sun SPARCStation 4 and 5, all along both with CDE and several open-source desktop environments such as FVWM95. Starting over.

Into playing with technology and reconsidering rebuilding most of this site and everything related to it. Not one single reason for trying to do so, it’s just that the web, “my” web, has profoundly and drastically changed throughout the last couple of years. And, as always, these changes didn’t happen all at once but rather in small, incremental steps, transforming the digital world I got in touch with, I got used to back as much as early 1996.
